Schwab
Schwab Deluxe 5-string electric, 1990s. $2,500.
Here's a gorgeous instrument from Kevin Schwab, the Minnesota-based dean of electric mandolin luthiers. It's his Deluxe model and this one hails from the 1990s. Reportedly, it was purchased, played four times, and then stashed for 30 years.
So it is in phenomenal shape, with no damage or wear and only the slightest hint of having been played. The serial number is 107.
Deluxe models featured binding, a sunburst finish, and highly figured front and back maple veneers on a solid mahogany body. And the maple here is spectacular: it has truly stunning birdseye figure beautifully brought out by the finish. Bolt-on maple neck with adjustable truss rod, ebony fretboard, and a pair of Lace pickups with 3-way switch. Through-body design with adjustable saddles.
14.75" scale. Comes with a heavy-duty flight case in pristine condition. Kevin Schwab is retired and won't be building any more of these. But that's OK: you need only one of them, and this is it. $2,500 plus shipping. See more photos, call 425/772-0231, or for more information.
